Beyond the Square is Riverside Theatre’s dedicated performing arts program for people with disability. It is the only mainstream theatre company in Australia to have a dedicated program committed solely to the development of opportunities for people with disability in the arts.

Beyond the Square is about working outside the norm, thinking laterally & creatively. It is about embracing difference and challenging preconceptions.

Beyond the Square works across three broad areas

Community Development

Beyond the Square is about developing a sense of community. A place where people feel they belong and have a say.  It is about opening up new social networks through performance workshops and events.

Artistic Development

Beyond the Square is interested in developing opportunities for people with disabilities who are serious about further developing their skills in performance and theatre making.  It is about developing people as artists and providing rigorous skills based training alongside professional artists.

Outreach

Beyond the Square’s outreach program aims to work with those in the community that may find it difficult to access the Beyond ABBA program or are wanting a more specialised program within their school or service.

Beyond the Square also has an inaugural fundraising event, Get On Stage to raise vital funds for the program.
